Back to school! Prince George is officially following in the educational footsteps of his father, Prince William. On Tuesday, September 8, the 13-year-old royal had his first day at Eton College, the all-boys boarding school that his father and uncle, Prince Harry, also attended. As George arrived at the school, he was accompanied by his parents, William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Dressed smartly in a suit and tie, George matched with his father, who also wore a blue tie and brown suede shoes. Their twinning style only emphasized the resemblance between the two princes, echoing William’s own first day at Eton in 1995, when his parents, Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles, and brother Prince Harry accompanied him. Kate wore a dark green Emilia Wickstead dress for the occasion, which fell on the same day as the fourth anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
To mark the milestone, Kensington Palace released official portraits by Matt Porteous of George wearing the Eton uniform of a black tailcoat, waistcoat, pinstripe pants, and a crisp white shirt. What can Prince George expect for his new chapter at Eton? For one thing, a rigorous education, of course—plus a host of traditions built up over the school’s nearly 600-year history.
For example, per People, on his very first day, George will take the “colours test,” an oral quiz on the house colors of the school’s 25 boarding houses and campus building locations.
